UPDATES

The Proposal was created in 2014 and submitted to Arun District Council by the 14th February 2015 “deadline”. The regeneration construction works were meant to have been started in early 2016, and so we are taken aback a little to find we are still a valid proposal being scrutinised by Arun District council in 2021!

At the time of the original submission, there was no instruction to consider any amendments or future involvement once the submission had been made (in February 2015).

Because we weren’t expecting to here here in 2017 let alone 2021, there have been no updates for the proposals funding. Although we are sure that funding streams proposed in 2014 are still viable.

however as of January 2021, We now think that with changing the shape of the main building it could be placed further back from what is the road, and the promenade road could reman “open”.

An open entrance to “the park” under the building and in line with the Arcade will still give an eye-line from London Road to the Promenade.

A sketch showing how the building could be moved

We have also considered keeping the theatre where it is, but remove the west side of the building, but according to various mapping web sites this won’t achieve the desired eye-line, and therefore miss the “strengthening the physical and visual links between the promenade and town centre” aspect that we have tried to work to.

However, we believe this could be considered.
