We’d love to hear from you!

We took a lot of time to collect as many opinions as we could in such a short space of time to reflect what the people of Bognor Regis wanted for their town.

It isn’t over! Creating a community-led project is very important to us and we would love to hear what you think of our proposal. Please take the time to leave us a comment or suggestion.

We will be monotoring this page, and the comments that are left very closely, so please try to be constructive and polite at all times.

I believe that the whole of the Esplanade from Gloucester Road to Lennox Street should be pedestrianised and incorporated into the promenade. The area that this would create could then be used for all of the ideas listed on this website. The Esplanade is often closed for fun fairs etc so it wouldn’t be a problem to lose the road. All of the flats along that stretch have access from Belmont street so they don’t need the Esplanade Road. I’m sure also that the residents of the seafront flats would be delighted with a pedestrianised area between themselves and the beach.

      Hi Iain,
one of the criterion from ADC was “to consider parking”. Our scheme proposes to make the esplanade from Gloster Road to Clarence Road “one way (east to west), and install chevron parking on both sides of the road.
The esplanade between Clarence Road and Lennox Street is an integral part of the scheme, as can be seen by the birdseye views in the “The Proposal” section..

      Hi Iain,
One of the criterion set by ADC was “to consider parking”.. There are two ideas within the group. the one the team decided was to make the esplanade between Gloucester Road and Clarence Road “one way”, and incorporate chevron parking on both sides of the road.
The esplanade between Clarence road and Lennox street is an integral part of the scheme, as can be viewed in the images under “the proposal”.

The other parking solution, mooted by some of the team, is to install a park and ride scheme based at the new viaduct,. A railway halt will also be installed at this site.

I have left my thoughts on your survey, but just wanted you to know that you have my support for a great initiative and proposal. Unfortunately wasn’t able to attend your open days and feel the plans are difficult to see via the computer and wondered if there is another chance of seeing this live? I could then give more focused thoughts on specifics. Doing anything like this requires huge stamina and savvy, so I wish you all the best and really hope that the local people are listened too.

      Hi Catherine,
A long overdue update! We have been asked to present the proposal to .BRTC next month, pending a date (probably a Monday evening).

Guys well done on some great proposals. Great to see open spaces . Thumbs up. Only things I’d like to add . The beach huts to me don’t site right but, would however make great units for independent trader’s ( arts &crafts etc), I would have liked to have seen a dedicated theatre with a larger capacity than propose, to attract more premium act’s /shows . Not a huge fan of seeing a supermarket occupy a prominent beach front location.
Would be great to see a return of the circus that used to be in Hotham park
Also, is there any way covers could move to an out of town location. They occupy a large prime site that could be used far better .

Wouldn’t the Covers site be ideal for inclusion with the overall regeneration of Bognor! If it was filled with accommodation both the Hothamton site and the Regis Centre site could be given over entirely to leisure and parking only.

I would also like to see the theatre redeveloped. I use it a lot and it is always well attended, it could be fantastic if suitably upgraded

        Hi Linda,
Believe it or not, in our surveys, NOBODY wanted to see a theatre, apart from an amphitheatre! It wasn’t until we did our presentation nights opposite the theatre, that it became so important. what we have suggested in that the theatre be moved to the Hothamton site. This will then not disrupt any programmes.

    • Andrew Clark 17th November 2019 at 9:20 pm #

      Michael,
Thank you for your comments. although the scheme has been “drawn”, we have always been clear that it would be made “flexible” in use. the “beach huts, believe it or not, were requested by quite a large number of respondents, so we have included them. It doesn’t mean they HAVE to be within the development. the retail units are designed in mind for predominantly the small arts and crafts / associated seaside businesses.
we have suggested that a new theatre be built on the Hothamton site. this will mean ARUNS tarts could move across wit little disruption to their programmes. BUT, this is not “set in stone” either, although we have included an amphitheatre on the RC site.
Huge supermarket? I think you are confusing the gallery / public space with retail? It is easy to do on images of this size!
You will see to the west, a “space” (a few small triangles to indicate a market)
this “space” has bene purposely left for seasonal “pop ups” such as ice rink and maybe Circus…
Covers, at least for now, is not part of the remit, but the point is taken and has been discussed within the group.

So pleased to learn the splash pool is to be modelled on Bude Sea pool where I spent many happy hours as a child. The water was replaced by the sea water washing over it at high tide so no need for an mechanism apart from a slice gate.
Really exciting plans, obviously a lot of hard work has gone into this proposal.
I sincerely hope this will be fully accessible to all potential users.
